We want to start off by letting you know that we do not breed dogs.  We are just humble pet owners who have
had the priviledge of being educated by those who breed and show their dog(s) in conformation and performance
events.  Through these people's willingness to educate and share knowledge, UKC has given us the priviledge of
being licensed Terrier Race Judges.

We follow United Kennel Club's (UKC) breed standard - there are several colors and two sizes; miniature and
standard.

The Rat Terrier was recognized by the United Kennel Club on January 1, 1999.

The American Hairless Terrier (AHT) was recognized by the United Kennel Club on January 1, 2004.

The Teddy Roosevelt Terrier (TRT) was recognized by the United Kennel Club on January 1, 1999.

Currently we own three Rat Terriers and one American Hairless Terrier - coated.  They are a combination of
mini and standard sizes.  We make this clarification so that others will understand which type we have.

We agree with the American Rat Terrier Association (UKC's parent breed club), the Apple Valley Rat Terrier
Club (UKC's local New England club), the Rat Terrier Club of America, and the National Rat Terrier Association,
that the American Hairless Terrier and Teddy Roosevelt Terrier need to be separate breeds and to keep those
gene pools separate.  Each registry has it's own terminology and breed standards.

It is advisable that you read them all to better understand the breed if you are interested in owning, breeding
and/or showing a Rat Terrier.

These are our own opinions and should not be interpreted as endorsing any club or registry.  We also strongly
encourage people who are considering getting a Rat Terrier, registering their dog(s).  Registering your dog does
not mean that you are obligated to join a club.  However, joining a dog club will enable you to keep current with
any or all issues/events that include Rat Terriers.  It is also advisable to join all or as many of them of the clubs
possible so that you can decide which club provides you with an agenda that best suits you and your dogs needs
and beliefs.
